Person dies in water-related incident in Tauranga

A person has died after “getting into trouble” near the Tauranga Marina this morning.

“Police were alerted at 10.45am. CPR was performed but the person was unable to be revived,” police said.

The death will be referred to the coroner.

Emergency services had responded to a water-related incident at the Sulphur Point marina.

Hato Hone St John was notified at 10.39am, a Hato Hone St John spokesperson said.

“One ambulance and one rapid response vehicle attended.”

A SunLive reporter at the scene said there were four police cars, and a Hato Hone St John ambulance parked near Pier G.

“Pier G has been blocked off, with some police further along on the pier, as well as police on shore talking with someone.”

A police spokesperson confirmed Pier G had been closed to the public.
