Te Puke Volunteer Fire Brigade is made up of men and women who drop everything and run when their pagers go off and the fire siren sounds.

But who are these men and women?

With permission from the fire brigade, Te Puke News is publishing a write up of its members, so you get an insight into the crew, where they come from, and what drives them as firefighters.

Starting off ‘Meet the Crew’ is Dale Lindsay.

A mortgage adviser by day, Lindsay is the chief fire officer at the station and has 40 years of service under his belt.

Read more about him below.

All-time favourite callout: It would have to be the first major house fire I went to in Morrinsville. It was an old weatherboard schoolhouse fully involved end to end, and another guy and I went in in BA and got it all out. When we came out, I had a “oh s***, were we in that?” Moment.

Thankfully no one was in there and no one was hurt. It was an awesome first major call and I’ll never forget it.

Hobbies and interests outside of the brigade:

I enjoy kit set modelling and days on the lake with the family.

If you had a theme song, what would it be?

Big Log - Robert Plant

Proudest moment as a brigade member:

I can’t pick one, but it’s between presenting my son with his three-year certificate, becoming a patron of the Auckland provincial fire brigade association or being a member of the Morrinsville VFB waterway team that won the Auckland Provincial Fire Brigades Association Championship in 1990. In those days there were about 30 teams competing and it was really hard to win. Hard to choose one of the three so I’ll say all three!

Most unusual or memorable callout:

Rescuing a goat from a tree.

Something you wish everyone knew:

The reality of carnage that can be caused on the roads. People think they know, but they don’t.

The reality of what happens when you do dumb stuff on the road is so much worse than what you could imagine.
