Traffic will be detoured on State Highway 29 along the Kaimai Range today due to emergency tree-felling works.

A NZTA Waka Kotahi spokesperson said work was taking place on SH29 between Thorn Rd and McLaren Falls Rd today to fell a gum tree that is at risk of falling on the highway.

Road users should expect some delays between 11am and 1pm while traffic management is in place.

Traffic in both directions will be guided past the operation at a controlled speed in a “rolling block”.

Traffic will also face some delays on Thorn and McLaren Falls roads.

Really? And if the tree doesn't comply will you use a PIT manoeuvre on it?
Can this tree not be felled in sections to not disrupt traffic?
Or has consideration for motorists gone right out the window?
