Traffic is backing up along State Highway 2 after a crash reported to police at 2.10pm.
"The vehicle rolled near the Te Puna Stream bridge," said a police spokeswoman.
Police assisted with traffic management. "The road was clear by 3.30pm," she said.
Hato Hone St John was notified of this incident on SH2, Whakamarama, at 2.08pm, responding with one ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and one manager, said a spokesman.
"One patient was assessed at the scene and transported to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition."
Traffic appears to still be clogged along the highway between Bethlehem and Ōmokoroa.

So with extreme congestion through Bethlehem well after 5 PM the police in their infinite wisdom decided to put a checkpoint on the alternative route of Carmichael Road to grid lock that as well. Long suffering commuters from the north had already had a dumb decision from the police in setting up a truck weight station by Clarke Road in morning rush hour and then the further idiocy of the checkpoint in evening rush hour - unbelievable!
