Whangamata is the most sought after bach destination in New Zealand, according to statistics published today by holiday bookers, Bookabach.

The beachside Coromandel town was the top selected holiday destination with the most number of nights booked between 1 December 2012 and 11 January 2013.

Whangamata is the top beachside town to book a bach at.

This was despite the fact holiday rental prices in Whangamata and other top ten destinations have increased by 5 per cent, says Bookabach CEO Peter Miles.

'It shows Kiwis are certainly not afraid to splurge a little when it comes to getting the perfect summer getaway.”

Bachs in Whangamata averaged at $281 per night during the Christmas period.

Also among New Zealand's top summer destinations were Lake Wanaka and Mangawhai Heads, coming in at second and third respectively.
