The trial of four men accused of murdering Tauranga man Gary Kimura due to begin in the High Court at Hamilton on Monday has been adjourned.
Taonui Hiku, 25, and Witeri Ahomiro Neketai, 34, both unemployed from Te Puke, Joseph Rewiri, 44, from Auckland, Jesse Christopher Hartley, 27, of Mount Maunganui are pleading not guilty to the assault on Gary Kimura at his Margaret Road home on October 5, 2011.
Tauranga businessman Gary Kimura was beaten at his Margaret Road property in 2011.
The 44-year-old businessman was left with injuries to his brain, fractures to his cheek and damage to his eye socket and rear of his skull following the beating in 2011.
He was taken to Tauranga Hospital and later transferred to the high dependency ward at Waikato Hospital. He remained in a coma for many weeks before being transferred back to Tauranga where he died on November 16.
Hiku, Neketai, and Rewiri have been remanded in custody since appearing in Tauranga District Court last year. Hartley has been on bail.
The trial is set down for two weeks, but has been adjourned until Wednesday.
Gary was a well-known in the Tauranga community and had owned Gary's Tyres in Sulphur Point for many years.
He is survived by his 45-year-old wife Rosina, daughters Jahna, 23, Manaia and Melani, both 18, son Teina, 4, and his two step-children.
