Red Beach's Thomas Kibblewhite had his third successive win in a row at the final event of the Hyundai Tour surf season at Mount Maunganui at the weekend.

Gisborne's Daniel Procter claimed his first overall Hyundai Tour title placing third at the final event, one place ahead of closest rival Mount Maunganui's Ant McColl.

The swell hung in overnight with surf at Tay Street, Mount Maunganui ranging between 0.5m - 1.0m early in the morning before fading throughout the day as the tide decreased and the sea breeze increased.
Procter started the year strong winning back-to-back events before missing the Sandy Bay leg. He then contested the last two events taking the lead back from McColl then holding on until today.
"I have been doing this for eleven years, I have placed second three times prior to this year" said a relieved Procter.

"I am a real conditions surfer, if the conditions over the year suit me I am in with a chance and this year suited me" he added before talking about mentors such as his Dad and ex New Zealand Champion Michael Fitzharris (Gis) who has helped him improve his surfing to where it is today.
Procter finished the final less than a point behind winner Thomas Kibblewhite but found it difficult to choose between going for the win today or the overall title.
"It was a bit of both in the final, I wanted to win the last one but the overall is the biggie, half way through I figured out it was easier to beat Ant and then clinch the overall title. I surfed well all event but not in the final" said Procter.

The final event belonged to Thomas Kibblewhite (Red Beach) who claimed victory on his last wave. Kibblewhite led the final in the early stages before Ohope surfer Dylan Barnfield scored a 6.83 point ride on a sharply surfed lefthander to take the lead. It didn't take long for Kibblewhite, New Zealand's highest internationally ranked surfer, to claim the lead back with a 5.87 point ride (11.27 point heat total) in the last minute of the final to claim his third successive event - a feat never before achieved on the Hyundai Tour.

Dylan Barnfield ultimately finished second scoring 10.83, ahead of Tour Champion Procter in third with Ant McColl (Mnt) placing fourth. McColl's fourth placing was enough to see him finish the year runner up.
Belinda Goodwin (Rag) was up against the odds at the final event needing to finish two places ahead of 2013 stand out Mischa Davis (Piha) to win the overall tour. However, when Davis was upset in the semifinals the door opened and a runner up finish by Goodwin was enough to claim the Tour Championship.

It was Ann Snyder (Mnt) who won today's event, her first Hyundai Tour win in the Women's Longboard Division. In an upset win, Snyder, in her second event of the year eeked out a hard fought final in the deteriorating conditions. Taranaki surfer Jo Moore placed third in the final ahead of Hannah Howard in fourth.
The Tour Championship was already determined prior to the final event of the Under 18 Longboard Division with Jordan Griffin (Mnt) proving the most consistent performer of the year. However he failed to make the final at his home break, the first time he has not contested a final this year.

Today it was Josh Taylor (Mnt) that absolutely dominated the final posting 13.1 points out of 20 in the final to claim his second win of the year. Taylor defeated Paul Moretti (Mimiwhangata) in the final, Moretti finishing in second place ahead of Whakatane surfers Matt Craig and Hone Douglas in third and fourth respectively.
Craig Anderson (Mnt) was the only competitor at this weekend's event to claim both his division final as well as the Tour Championship.

Anderson finished the final with a 12.40 point heat total to win the title which he claimed after his closest rival Guy Rencher (Mnt) was eliminated in the semis. In the final Anderson defeated Steve Tyro (Rag) in second place with Brian Moore (Mnt) in third and James Atutahi (Mnt) in fourth.
Phil Griffin (Mnt) continued the trend of top performing Mount Maunganui surfers as the fourth local to win their division. Griffin, competing in his only event of the year stole the victory on his final wave that nudged him ahead of overall Tour Champion Mark Hoyle (Orewa) who finished runner up today.

David Storck (Piha) finished third in the final ahead of Rupert Newbold (Whangarei) in fourth.

Danil Kereopa (Rag) clean swept the Stand Up Paddleboard Division for 2013 winning the final event to make it five from five. His dominance throughout the year had him only requiring a last place finish in the final event to claim the Tour. However the all-around waterman was not prepared to go out like that stamping his mark on the year with a win 0.04 points ahead of Shayne Baxter (Chch). Baxter (Chch) finished runner up in the final as well as on tour with Te Peehi Farlie (Tolaga Bay) placing third and Armie Armstrong placing fourth.
The Stand Up Paddleboard Races were dominated by Armie Armstrong (Rag) in the short course and Annabel Anderson in the long course race. Both paddlers also won the overall tour.

Armie Armstrong took his win on the last run into shore where he overtook runner up Jeremy Stephenson (Auck). In contrast, Annabel Anderson completely blitzed the field of 16 in the 10km race finishing in a time of 59 minutes.
Paul Culpan (Auck) claimed the Logger Session ahead of Jordan Griffin (Mnt) while Zen Wallis (Piha) won the best nose ride of the all-in expression session that saw 25 surfers attack the water.
The Walden Longboard raffle was won by Anna Barnes (Mnt) with the raffle raising over $750 dollars for hosts Bay Boardriders Club.
Hyundai and Farmer Motor Group also donated $500 to Tauranga Coastguard as part of their commitment to supporting community groups throughout New Zealand.
