Speedway New Zealand has hired a private investigator to look into the crash that killed Mount Maunganui mini-stock racer Samantha Mouat last month.
The Circle Track Racing Association's Tony Taylor was heading an initial enquiry into the crash, and he has completed this, but says he cannot release the results until the private investigation is complete.
Young speedway drivers give a guard of honour for Samantha Mouat.
Tony says Speedway New Zealand hired the private investigator to offer more comprehensive and independent findings.
The investigation Tony carried out identified a mechanical fault in Samantha's mini-stock, but he would not comment further.
"At the moment it's tending more towards a mechanical problem, away from driver error.
"I would say it would be very common on all their vehicles. It's very concerning," says Tony.
