A Waihi doctor seriously injured in a fatal car accident which killed Hannah Eaton, wife of former Hurricane Chris Eaton, is recovering in Waikato Hospital.
Waihi GP Tineke Iversen, 37, is stable in a ward at Waikato Hospital following the fatal accident on State Highway 26, Paeroa-Kopu Road, just before 9.30pm on Saturday.
Waihi GP Tineke Iversen (right) was injured in the fatal crash which killed Hawke's Bay woman Hannah Eaton (left).
Police say their initial investigations reveal Hannah's BMW and the Iversen's Ford Territory crashed when the BMW failed to negotiate a slight bend and crossed the centreline.
'It crashed in a T-bone collision with an oncoming southbound Ford Territory SUV,” says district road policing manager Inspector Marcus Lynam.
Speaking from her bed in hospital, Tineke says her and her husband would like to offer their condolences to the Eaton family.
Her 36-year-old husband was treated at the hospital's emergency department before being discharged over the weekend.
'Firstly our condolences go to the family of Hannah Eaton who died at the scene. We have young children ourselves and so we know the heartache and sorrow her family must be feeling. We offer our best wishes and support to Hannah's family.
'Our thanks also to the emergency services who attended the accident, they were amazing.”
Tineke would also like to thank the staff at Waikato Hospital who took care of her and her husband.
'I'm aware my patients at Waihi Health Centre will be wondering about arrangements while I'm recuperating in hospital.
'Please ring the practice on 07 863 8195 for more information.”
The serious crash unit is expected to carry out a complete investigation of the accident site sometime this week.
