Drive-In movie battle heats up

Time is running out to vote for the finale movie at the upcoming Drive In Movie festival at ASB Baypark.

As voting nears closing on Sunday organisers say it is a close call between two popular iconic films – Top Gun and Dirty Dancing.

Public voting for the finale film in the Baypark Drive-In Movie Festival closes on Sunday.

'It's neck and neck between Top Gun and Dirty Dancing. It will be down to the wire,” says organiser Karen Gemmell.

The festival begins on Tuesday, April 30 with the long-time drive in favourite Grease.

Karen says people wanting to attend Grease need to get in early as 40 per cent of tickets are already sold.

'Everyone is really excited about it. We are getting inquiries from all around the country.”

Opening night promises to be a special event with themed roller girl waitresses, a stadium diner and Mustangs in attendance.

'In addition to Mustangs we are expecting other car clubs, there will be roller derby girls directing cars and taking orders. The lounge will be set up as a diner providing food and beverages.”

Karen is expecting all types of people to come along, from families in station wagons to groups of young people in vans, as well as the classic car lovers.

Local petrol stations are also getting into the theme and will be dressing in Grease outfits and playing the film's theme songs over the forecourt leading up to the opening night.

The closing night film is being determined by public vote that closes on Sunday.

Really looking forward to this but why is the lineup of movies so old, and really, not good? Looks like we'll be going to see Back to the Future. As if that hasnt been played enough on free TV already.
