Four people suffered injuries, including one in a serious condition, after a truck and car collided in Te Puke sending the car crashing head-on into a tree.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Jellicoe Street and Oroua Street around 3.20pm where a blue sedan had crashed into a tree on the roadside.
A car has smashed head-on into a tree in Te Puke.
Fire trucks, St John Ambulance and police were called to the smash on Jellicoe Street.
Four people, aged in the 20-30s, were injured in the accident with three suffering moderate injuries and one receiving serious injuries.
All four people were taken to Tauranga Hospital by St John Ambulance.
Constable Rowan Scott says the car carrying four people was travelling north towards Papamoa when it was clipped by a fully laden logging truck as the two lanes merged.
'The car has lost control, skidding off the road and hitting a tree, coming to an abrupt stop.
'It sounds like there is a merging issue but we need to talk to witnesses to establish what happened. It sounds like there may have been a couple of trucks involved.”
Rowan says police would like to talk to witnesses, who can contact Te Puke Police 07 573 0500 and pass their details on to Constable Rowan Scott of Highway Patrol.
'At this stage we are still doing further enquiries to ascertain what happened.”
At least two fire trucks and three St John Ambulances were called to the scene along with police.
Witnesses say it took some time to free the male driver of the car.

Maybe another case of the car trying to beat the truck up on the left hand side. The right hand lane in Te Puke is for traffic travelling straight threw, and even when you indicate left at the end of that lane car drivers love sitting along side your truck in the blind spot!! where we cant see them!!!

Yep, probably another idiot trying to zip up the inside. Fools are lucky they didn't get killed.
