He says forensic teams were at the supermarket on Tweed Street early today.
'We are not sure if it was a burglary or a theft. Officers are looking into that now.”
New World owner Alan Rudkin says two offenders set off alarms when they broke in through the front door of the supermarket shortly after the cleaners left at midnight.
"They made a bit of a mess, it was cleaned up in 10 minutes. They got away with very, very little."
Alan remained on site with the bakers who arrived at 3am.
There was visible damage to the front door this morning that police forensic staff were fingerprinting.
Police were also working inside the supermarket this morning.
