Gull to grace Parton Road

Papamoa residents can expect fierce competition in petrol prices as Gull announces it will open its new station on Parton Road in eight weeks.

Gull's new petrol station site on Parton Road.

The unmanned site on Parton Road is six weeks into construction with storage fuel tanks to hold a total of 140,000 litres already installed underground.

Terminal New Zealand general manager Dave Bodger says the site, with eight car placements and four card readers, will join the 14 existing nationwide sites as part of the retailers move to the future of fuel efficiency.

'You put your card in and authorise it, grab your fuel and go,” says Dave.

'I'd like it to be open tomorrow but given the tanks are in the ground it should be open in eight weeks' time. And given the growth in Papamoa - we are excited.”

He admits the site is running behind schedule due to a drawn out resource consent in what should be a 'very simple” process to build the petrol station.

Gull, New Zealand's first independent full retailer, also has unmanned sites in Merivale and Whakamaramara and the added Papamoa site seems a logical fit for residents as it will become the nearest service station between Te Puke and the Fashion Island Shopping Centre.

'Because it's unmanned we really sharpen our prices on that site. It will be like our Merivale and Whakamaramara sites.

'They are often well below the market so the people down that end of Papamoa should be saving a fair few bucks.”

Put in as many of these stations as you like. I don't want to be paying extra for my fuel just because the service station sells baked beans and tampons. They shouldn't be called service stations anyhow the service went out of the stations years ago. Mini marts with fuel is more like it
