New police station to open

Tauranga's new $20.8million central city police station is only a week away from officially opening.

The newly built station on the previous police station site at 11 Monmouth Street will be operational from 4pm on Monday, July 22.

The new police station on Monmouth Street will be operational from next Monday.

Prior to this any enquiries are through the current temporary police station situated at 111, 3rd Ave Tauranga.

Construction of the new 3900sqm building began in January after it was announced in 2011 the old building would be torn down and replaced.

From Friday, July 19 the Durham Street, Tauranga office will no longer be open to the public.

All enquiries to this office can be directed to the Tauranga Central Police Station or other stations in the Western Bay of Plenty from July 22.

Western Bay of Plenty Area Commander, Inspector Clifford Paxton, says services for the central Tauranga area will not be affected by the relocation.

'All other stations in the Western Bay of Plenty, Katikati, Te Puke, Mount Maunganui, Papamoa and Tauranga South remain operational for this period and are not impacted upon by the pending relocation of Tauranga Central.”

Any enquiries can be directed to the Tauranga Central Police station on (07) 577 4300.

Bet the staff are looking forward to their new and modern "workplace" good on them - they deserve all the help they can get. I , for one, could not do what they do day in and day out- dealing with the scumbags and toe rags out there. Very appreciate of them all and the way they keep our community safe for the rest of us.
