An Environment Bay of Plenty (EBOP) buoy monitoring system, popular with boat users and surfers is coming ashore for repairs.
Data from the wave buoy, which can be accessed via Environment Bay of Plenty's website www.envbop.govt.nz, is used by surfers and boat users wanting to assess sea conditions.
The buoy records information and feeds data on wave height, water temperature and wave frequency into the website.
Environment Bay of Plenty data services manager Glenn Ellery says the buoy is being removed Thursday, August 6, for repairs and general maintenance.
'We'll be upgrading the communications module, installing a transparent dome covering and giving it a general spruce up. This will hopefully improve the quality of the information the buoy transmits to EBOP and in turn improves the information we can supply to the public,” says Glenn.
He says the buoy was expected to be out of the water for a few weeks and updates would be posted on the Wave Buoy page on the EBOP website.
