Tauranga Mitre 10 Mega has been named the store of the year beating out other Mitre 10 stores from around New Zealand.
The announcement was made at the Mitre 10 annual awards in Auckland on Thursday evening.
General manager Wayne Mansell is proud of his team's efforts.
Waihi Mitre 10 took out the trade store category.
Comments from the judges noted that this year was one of the closest they had ever seen with the top three in each category separated by only a few points.
A statement released by the building organisation says both stores won by achieving the highest score in the customer service areas measured by mystery shoppers.
'As a family owned and operated business we would like to acknowledge our team and the efforts they have put in to achieving a phenomenal result.
'We would also like to thank Mitre 10 NZ for all their support and the acknowledgement of Ted Bold, who sadly, passed away earlier this year,” says company director Greg Bold.

Congratulations to Mitre ten, but they have gone down the same "quality out the window" road as many other retailers, by importing and selling useless junk from China. I recently bought 3 nail punches from Mitre Ten in the knowledge that they had an old and trusted brand name on them, so must be good. The ends became burred after little use, due to substandard metallurgy. Then on closer inspection, I found crudely engraved "made in China" Our markets are now saturated with third world class junk that fills our rubbish tips up (I refuse to use that PC pretentious name "landfill"). To add insult to injury, we see China demanding high quality on their imports
