Hawkins to build TISEC

Tauranga City Council has announced Hawkins Construction Ltd is the preferred contractor to build the Tauranga Indoor Sport and Exhibition Centre (TISEC) at Baypark.
Negotiations are underway with Hawkins Construction Ltd to finalise a contract to build the new facility, says project manager city engineer Howard Severinsen.

Plans for Tauranga's newest indoor sports centre.

He's expecting negotiations to be completed by mid-December.
The final contract price is still being discussed.
'Indications are that the price will allow the project to be completed for less than the overall $41 million project budget,” says Howard.
Tauranga City Council received six tenders for the construction project.
TISEC is a new nine-court facility centre situated beside the outdoor stadium at Baypark, Mount Maunganui.
It is planned as a hub for community sport and entertainment – supporting the greater western Bay of Plenty. The TISEC's primary use is for community sport, followed by exhibitions and other functions such as sports events, awards and corporate events. The centre includes a stage area, has seating for 3000 people, meeting rooms, a kitchen and other amenities.
Construction of the new facility is expected to begin early 2010.
Hawkins Construction Ltd is New Zealand owned, and is part of the McConnell Group. It is one of the country's largest privately owned construction and infrastructure groups.
