One of the three Tauranga people accused of robbing the Brookfield Veterinary Centre for cash and drugs armed with weapons has admitted to his part in the hold-up.
Colin Thomas Borthwick, 23, appeared before Judge Thomas Ingram in Tauranga District Court today where he pleaded guilty to one charge of aggravated robbery.
The Brookfield Veterinary Clinic which Colin Borthwick has admitted robbing on July 24.
He is jointly charged with Cathy Anne Davies, 33 and Lucy Jane Kellick, 26, who also appeared in Tauranga Registrar's Court today where both pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police say on July 24 a man and woman entered the Brookfield Veterinary Clinic at the shopping centre on Otumoetai Road around 5.25pm armed with blunt weapons.
The pair threatened a female staff member working in the shop, demanding money before making away with cash. The pair then left the premises and got into a dark coloured vehicle being driven by a third person, say police.
Police then stopeed the car a short time later down on Bureta Road and arrested Borthwick and two other alleged offenders.
Borthwick's lawyer Tony Rickard-Simms today requested a pre-sentence and restorative justice report be prepared before his client appears for sentencing.
'There is a starting point of five years and he understands that. He was disguised and would like to put a face to her [the victim] to apologise,” says Tony.
Judge Ingram convicted Borthwick and remanded him in custody until October 3.
Davies and Kellick are further remanded on bail subject to strict conditions including a night time curfew and requirement they do not go within 1km of the Brookfield Shopping Centre.
