Six people have thrown their hats in the ring to be Mayor of Tauranga City with some familiar names to voters.

Hori Leeming and John Robson are both regular tilters at the city mayor windmill. Hori has in the past been a single issue, sports oriented campaigner. John has a highly critical eye on the city's economic performance, and still dines out on how councillors refused to take him up on his $1 million to $1000 offer during at the last election campaign on SmartGrowth growth predictions.

They both have the task of outing current Mayor Stuart Crosby, who is running for his fourth term as Tauranga Mayor.

Mike Baker is a former city councillor who lost his seat at the last election. He's also standing again for council, and John is hedging his bets this time and also campaigning for an at large council seat.

There are a total of 13 nominees seeking four at large seats. The Mount-Papamoa ward contest will be interesting as a number of younger men take on the two incumbents, David Stewart and Wayne Moultrie.

Publican Clayton Mitchell and Steve Morris are both well known in the community. Since his defeat at the last election Steve has been maintaining a media profile via the Papamoa Progressive Association. Newspaper columnist Richard Moore is also in the running.

If you are running for council SunLive would like to hear from you.

Throughout the elections SunLive will be running a dedicated candidates page featuring profiles and photos. If you're a candidate and would like to be included email newsroom@thesun.co.nz
