Kirby quits Mainstreet

Manager of Mainstreet Tauranga, Kirby Weis, is resigning after more than seven years on the job.

Kirby says he is leaving to look for other challenges and employment opportunities and will be finishing this week.

Kirby Weis is stepping down as manager of Mainstreet Tauranga.

'I would like to thank you all for your support and the opportunities that I have had during my time with Downtown Tauranga, and wish you, your business and Downtown Tauranga all the best for the future.

"The Board was considering options for moving forward, and after seven years leading the organisation it is an opportune time for me to move on and look for new challenges and employment opportunities, and the Board to move in a new direction. I am looking forward to spending time with my family and then I will look for new employment options."

Downtown Tauranga Mainstreet Board chairman Glenn Tuck says he would like to acknowledge Kirby's time and work at Mainstreet over the years and wish him the very best with his future endeavours.

'Kirby's impending departure has seen the board spend considerable time looking at the best options for Mainstreet moving forward and we have put in place a new management and marketing plan that we know will deliver solid outcomes, greater efficiencies for Mainstreet and an exciting new model moving forward.

'In the next few days we will bring you full details of the new look Mainstreet. Meantime, rest assured, the office, management and marketing will continue as normal.”

Mainstreet is the CBD business organisation that liaises with the city council over issues that affect retailers, such as parking. The mainstreet membership pay commercial rates to the city council plus the levy that pays for the support organisation.
