A Tauranga teenager who admitted to burgling an Ohauiti home before fleeing to Countdown supermarket where he was arrested has been sentenced to four months home detention.
Eli Johnson, 18, was sentenced to home detention for stealing jewellery and alcohol from an Ohauiti home on July 15.

Johnson was one of three people arrested in the Cameron Road Countdown carpark after a short police chase.
The trio, including Joshua Oldeman, a 22-year-old Rotorua man, and Benjamin Lafferty, 24, from Tauranga, led police on a chase through the city from Ohauiti, along Turret Road to Cameron Road.
Police say the Nissan Skyline they were travelling in was abandoned in the Ten Pin Tauranga carpark and the occupants jumped the fence to the Countdown Supermarket where they were arrested.
Johnson was sentenced when he appeared in Tauranga District Court last month.

So basically no punishment at all!! no wonder there are so many of these types of crimes going on......its becoming a country of "protect ones self, as our laws wont"
