Tauranga Police are investigating how an un-restrained toddler fell out of a car onto the road in the city yesterday.
The three-year-old is believed to have been in the back of the car when the boy managed to open the door of the vehicle at the intersection of Cameron Road and 14th Avenue about midday.
Police interview witnesses outside the Caltex service station where a child fell from a car.
Sergeant Craig Madden told SunLive the child had minor injuries but did not need medical attention.
He understands the car was making a U-turn near the Caltex service station when the child fell.
Tauranga Police Acting Senior Sergeant, Simone Mills, says no arrests have been made and it was a traffic matter.
'It was not as bad as it was made out to be.”
Allen Davis, customer service representative at 14th Ave Caltex, told Sunlive he did not see anything but customers on the forecourt did.

the child should of been strapped in so if the door did open he/she wouldnt beable to fall out......its obvious that the kid was loose in the car.....

I know it is easy for parents to think, oh it will be okay I'm just popping into there I won't be long so don't need to restrain my child! Hey parents, kiddies are quicker than us! In a blink of an eye something drastic can happen, and don't think "it'll never happen to me" cause things happen in the blink of an eye! The Mum is just damn lucky that nothing serious did not happen, it could have been so much worse. I understood that it was the LAW that all children under a certain age HAD to be restrained in approved child safety seats??? If there is going to be no repercussions for NOT restraining your child, why have the law in the first place. It would make life a lot easier for our over-worked underpaid police officers thats for sure!
think first

Did the person driving have a seat belt, for safety?? EVERY BODY knows that EVERY BODY has to be in a seat belt or car seat. Very irresponsible. First ones to yell poor me, right
Minor?

It was a minor matter? How? A child falling out of a moving car is NEVER a minor matter. Whose decision is that?
Unrestrained.

Cars have CHILD LOCKS on doors for a reason, I know full well some toddlers are clever enough to unbuckle their seat belts, or wiggle out of their seat belts, Lucky the kid was not seriously hurt... Never underestimate a child, EVERYONE should learn from this incident, Not just the parents of this Child.
