He was also disqualified for 12 months from February 22, 2014, once his jail sentence is complete.

Maney is also jointly charged with his cousin, 34-year-old Damien Maney, of unlawfully being in possession of a sawn off shotgun, a 12 gauge single shotgun and nine rounds of shotgun ammunition.

The pair are due to appear in court for a case review on November 5.

The Maneys were arrested on Friday, August 30, after police found two firearms and ammunition in the vehicle the cousins were in during a routine vehicle stop in Willow Street.

The pair are yet to enter a plea on the charges.

In court Jason Maney's lawyer Whare Hika entered a guilty plea for driving while disqualified on behalf of his client.

'Today was initially set down for a sentence indication hearing but he is now pleaded guilty to the charge.

'He takes full responsibility for his actions and accepts the only possible outcome for this is a short stint in jail.”

Judge Robert Wolff agreed jail was the only possible outcome due to the defendant's criminal history.

'Whilst you have quite a considerable history, this is your first driving while disqualified charge.

'You are currently in custody and it would be better for you to get out of remand and be on the other side [to work on getting the matter sorted].”
