A family staying in Tauranga for the weekend have been left stranded and unable to return home to their father for Christmas after their car was found smashed outside a home on Domain Rd.
The woman, who would only be named as Melissa, is visiting a friend with her two daughters, aged 2 and 4, in Papamoa this weekend when they found their Mitsubishi Magna smashed while it was parked on the footpath on Saturday afternoon.
Melissa's car was smashed on Saturday afternoon.
'The roof is all smashed in and made the rear windscreen break. There is broken glass all over the car seats and the car. The person didn't leave a note either,” says Melissa's friend Maria, who spoke to SunLive under the condition her last name was not used.
Maria says Melissa went to get something from her car just after 12.30pm on Saturday and the car was untouched. But when she returned to the car about 20 minutes later, the car had been smashed.
Because of the damage, the car cannot be driven and Maria says her friend, who is visiting her from Thames, is stranded at her home 'right before Christmas”.
'The children just want to go home.”
The car bonnet was smashed.
Maria has contacted police but she was told there was 'not much they could do”.
The family live in a rural bush area about 12km out of Thames and because Melissa has the family's only car, the children's father – who is at home – cannot drive here to pick them up.
And until they return, the father has no way of getting into town to buy food.
Maria is seeking help from the public to find a car so the family can return to their family in Thames for Christmas.
'She has no cash to just go out and buy a new car as it was not insured,” says Maria.
This year has not been easy for her friend, according to Maria, who says her friend buried her eight-day-old baby last year after having to turn off its life support. Melissa and Maria attended the baby's unveiling, a ceremony that dedicates a grave monument erected for someone who passed away 12 months earlier, a few months ago.
'This woman needs a magic fairy to help her. I am gutted that I'm not wealthy enough to help her. 'She always is helping others.”

Why was her car parked on the footpath ??
nice to ask

Even IF the car was blocking the footpath, this is not an acceptable way to complain about it. If that were the reason, perhaps a knock on the door and request her to move. No-one or nothing should be treated like that! What makes people who do that sort of vandalism tick?? I hope she does get home and has a lovely family Christmas and Karma takes care of the rest. :(
yea right

I am picking that this was the result of something falling off or swinging off a passing truck or trailer. It takes a hell of a force to do that damage. Plus the strike point appears to be on the road side.
Why cant they drive home?

It's the back windscreen not the front? Sure it sucks but I think we are only being told half the story here.....
Idiots

Suspicious or not, sadly things like this do happen and can very much happen to innocent people! If I remember right the lovely old lady that was walking along Domain road who had a bottle thrown at her face for no reason. There are idiots out there guys!!
