Square off at Bay Oval

The Netherlands, will go into their second ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier game at the Bay Oval Mount Maunganui on Wednesday, January 15 2014, against Namibia, full of confidence after a seven wicket win against Uganda in game one.

Uganda won the toss and backed themselves to post a competitive total, batting first. The Ugandans made a good start, however from 93/2 they lost regular wickets to be bowled out for 151 in the 46th over.

Michael Rippon did the real damage with the ball, to grab four wickets at a cost of just 15 runs, with Mudassar Bukhari and Michael Swart taking two wickets apiece.

Facing a run rate of 3.27 runs per over to take out the encounter, the Dutch were at 62/2, before wicket keeper Wesley Barresi and captain Peter Borren came together to put on a 85 run partnership.

Barresi belted an unbeaten 61, with Borren posting a half century before being dismissed, as the Dutch cruised to a seven wicket win.

Namibia will be making their CWCQ14 debut, when they run on to the Bay Oval Two ground to face The Netherlands, after drawing the bye in the Group B first round.

Fifth seed Namibia finished seventh in the ICC WCLC, winning two matches out of 12. Their chances in the CWCQ14 will hinge largely on the bowling form of Christi Viljoen, who took 23 wickets in the ICC WCLC, and Raymond van Schoor, who scored 360 runs at an average of 30 in the same competition.

In their first warm-up match played in Christchurch, Namibia beat Nepal in an absolute thriller. Namibia batted first and posted 231/9, then bowled Nepal out for 227/9 to win by a paper thin margin of four runs. On day two of the preliminary encounters, Scotland beat Namibia by 63 runs.
