A minor earthquake has rippled through the Lower Kaimais with little fuss this morning.
GeoNet reports a magnitude 2.9 quake struck 25km south-west of Tauranga about 10.15am.
A magnitude 2.9 earthquake has been reported in the Lower Kaimais.
The quake, registered at a depth of 5km and described as having a 'light” intensity, was recorded near Soldiers Road off State Highway 29 – close to the Wairoa River.
A caller into SunLive says her partner was at McLaren Falls when he felt the quake.
'The first one was very mild and the second one rocked the boat,” says the caller.
Another member of the public felt it while sitting in Tauranga Hospital's orthopaedic clinic.
"It was just a gentle rocking of the bed. Felt like a heavy truck passing by," they say.
