City traffic lights turned off

The traffic lights on the intersection of Cameron Road and Elizabeth Street will be turned off early this evening for maintenance work.

Tauranga City Council communications advisor Marcel Currin says the lights are due to be turned off at 7pm.

The traffic lights at the intersection of Cameron Road and Elizabeth Street will be off from 7pm.

He says they will be operating again by tomorrow morning. During the outage, the intersection will be limited to one lane with a temporary roundabout.

This work concludes a major upgrade to the Elizabeth/Cameron Road intersection which started in October 2013.

and they are still not operating correctly, and as for the "up grade" what a wasted effort, all for the sake of a few cyclists, not only the money spent, but the disruption to business owners and commuters, what has it achieved???.

It's probably too late to mention this, but there is a serious fault with the right turning arrow for traffic turning from Elizabeth St into Cameron Road. Less than half the cars waiting, can turn before the light turns red,and we have to wait even longer. I often try to enter the traffic lanes from Selwyn Street into Elizabeth Street, only to find that the lines of cars waiting for the light to change often prevent me from leaving Selwyn Street. Simple solution - extend the time the lights are on Green to handle the traffic volumes,TCC Aster
