The Cross Road ramp at Sulphur Point is to be upgraded for use by heavy commercial vessels, and they will have priority in future.The existing ramp is to be overlaid with pre cast concrete slabs to strengthen it for use by heavy commercial vessels.

There will also be extra piles put in to strengthen the mooring jetty.
The work will take about four weeks to complete depending on weather and tides.
The ramp will be closed during alterations. Alternatives are available at Marine Park and Whareroa.
Tauranga City Council is upgrading the ramp so that the Forest Lady barge that services Matakana Island can be relocated from the Yacht Club ramp at Sulphur Point.
Once the work is completed, commercial vessels will have priority use of the upgraded ramp.
