A man armed with a metal spanner attempted to rob the Cosmos Superette on Fenton Street in Rotorua.

Police are investigating the incident, which happened about 1.15pm, and say the offender is described as a male, possibly part Maori and of medium build.

Police are asking for information about a robbery in Rotorua.

He was last seen wearing a dark coloured top, grey shorts, converse style shoes and a baseball cap.

'He was armed with a metal spanner which he has used to threaten the shop attendant,” says a statement from police.

'There has been a short struggle before the offender has left the store, walking off on Fenton Street towards Pukuatua Street.”

The offender turned right on Pukuatua Street towards the centre of town where witnesses have lost sight of him.

The shop attendant was shaken by the incident but was fortunate only to receive minor injuries.
