Countdown for The Lakes

A new supermarket is set to bring around 100 jobs to Tauranga with new Countdown planned for The Lakes in Tauriko.

Progressive Enterprises has confirmed plans for the supermarket to be included in a shopping complex designated for the area.

Progressive Enterprises have confirmed plans for a new Countdown supermarket for The Lakes.

'We've been working with local developer Stilwell to include a Countdown supermarket as part of their new town centre plans in Tauriko/ Tauranga Crossing,” says a Progressive Enterprise spokesperson.

'I believe it's very early days and details about wider plans going forward and the proposed timings are yet to be confirmed.”

Tauriko developer and Calland Properties director Richard Stilwell has been working with Progressive Enterprises since gaining resource consent for the shopping centre in February 2012.

The shopping complex will also include a service station.

Bureta now The Lakes. Yes we believe it is good for employment but enough is enough. Competition is good but against your own stores as most are within close proximity of each other. Is not money the root of all evil. We can only be seen as cash cows for overseas owned companies. Support your own NZ owned stores.

Please people realise that some businesses have more money to invest than others. Some are slow on the up take. Great to see some trying to keep the people happy. The Lakes is growing fast and I hope those in the area will appreciate a shopping centre. Yes support NZ, but if NZ can not get off bum, accept. Foodstuffs build narrow isle supermarkets and when friend meets friend isles get blocked. Countdown isles a bit wider and can be negotiated easily.

I would have thought that Welcome Bay area would have been due for a supermarket maybe it is time for aPak&save or a New World over there?

Welcome Bay would love to have a Supermarket. The benefit to the wider community would be felt /seen by the decrease in trafic having to travel to and from other supermarkets is but one great benefit affecting many.

What about Greerton?

Heaven, I hope they (Countdown)won't be silly enough to close the wonderful small supermarket right in the village at Greerton? How would all the pensioners, disabled, and those without cars manage without their wonderful (and always smiling) service? So many would not be able to access a bigger facility at the Lakes - it would be VERY shortsighted to close the Greerton store.... please don't?!

no more supermarkets

your all mad the amount of supermarkets in Tauranga is crazy and a small trip to the supermarket is no biggy people need to move around more. I guess once the monopppppoly on prices is sorted then the prices will go up even more and as there will be no small businesses left and no competition then I guess the prices will go up and up. Lets remember people that as traffic gets worse and parking is even more of a drama people will shop online and get their groceries delivered. I wish Tauranga would wake up to the fact that not every house has to be within 5 minutes of an over-priced supermarket. Buy local just like they are in Ozzie now to cut down corruption by the supermarkets, oh and they bought in Aldi to fight the Countdown/Coles etc Monopoly. no more supermarkets buy online and local
