Magic Coldplay find at city library

UPDATE 5.30PM: Two young Tauranga women are reeling after discovering the secret handwritten lyrics by Coldplay in a book at Tauranga City Library today.

Lauren Bracken and Annalie Tennant today tweeted a photograph of the lyrics to Coldplay's A Sky Full of Stars found inside Shirley Jackson's The Haunting Hill House book at Tauranga Library.

The lyrics to songs of British rockers Coldplay have been hidden in nine public libraries around the world to promote their new album Ghost Songs.

Fans have to decipher clues published on Coldplay's Twitter page to track down the books and hidden lyrics, with one of the prizes a special golden ticket for a trip to London to see the band play on July 1.

This morning Coldplay posted the clue 7: Where the Apterygidae family have plenty in the bay, find the City Library on Willow and look for Ms Jackson's THoHH #lyricshunt" earlier this morning.

Following from Auckland was former Otumoetai College student Lauren Bracken, 22, who recognised the clue and contacted friend Annalie Tennant.

Speaking to SunLive after the discovery, Annalie says Lauren text her about 10am today asking if she was in town and could go to the library to check it out.

'I said ‘yeah definitely' and headed down there. I expected to find heaps of people looking but no one was around, and none of the library staff said anything.

'Part of the clue related to the book – it mentioned the family in the Bay and the initials of the title. I looked up the book and there it was on the shelf.”

Inside were the handwritten lyrics to one of Coldplay's new songs, Annalie believes was written by frontman and singer Chris Martin.

'You can definitely tell it is handwritten.”

But just how the lyrics got into the book in Tauranga City is still a mystery to the 22-year-old graduate in media studies.

'No idea – none of the library staff mentioned it.”

Tauranga memories website administrator Harley Couper says he didn't know the lyrics were in the library until he saw the tweet from the two girls this morning.

'There was a quick photo with the name of the book. So we looked at our catalogue and saw we had the book.

'In the tweet we saw this hashtag and wondered what it was about - so we clicked on it and saw that Coldplay had released its next album's lyrics by hiding them in books in public libraries around the world.”

As soon as Harley saw the tweet, he raced downstairs and found the book.

'Unfortunately, I found the book on the bottom shelf open with the lyrics already discovered.

'Congratulations to the two girls who found it we say and great that these wordsmiths that are Coldplay are hiding these words in libraries.”
