Papamoa fire: controlled burn

Numerous reports of a fire in Papamoa this morning has turned out to be a controlled burn that will continue for a number of days.

Papamoa, Mount Maunganui and Greerton Fire Brigades were all called to reports of a fire burning out of control on Bell Road about 8.30am.

A burnoff in Papamoa this morning may continue all day.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Scott Osmond says the communications centre received two calls reporting a fire at Emerald Shores.

'It turned out to be a controlled burn that is under control and permitted.

'As we understand there are a number of fires burning at Emerald Shores over the next few days.”

About six or seven fires will be burning on land at the rear of Nautilus Drive, Papamoa in the next two days. This morning's fire is expected to continue burning all day, possibly tomorrow.

this pollution practice needs to be banned NZ wide, so much for NZs clean green image, when tourists travel country wide burnoffs from bombay Hauraki plains well just everywhere, so much for our nice clear skies only to be polluted by a sad practice by sad people, you only have to look at the northern hemisphere and we should not allow it
