The queues are long at Gold Star Patrick's Pies Bakery in Bethlehem after the store's bacon and egg pie won the supreme award at the Bakel Pie Awards on Tuesday night.
Store owner, Patrick Lam, was not on site first thing Wednesday, leaving the steady stream of customers at the store for his deputies to attend.

This store is one of several under Patrick's ownership, including one in Papamoa at Palm Beach Plaza and one in Rotorua.
Patrick's success with his bacon and egg pie is his fourth supreme award win in the competition that has run for 14 years and his second in a row after winning in 2009 with his creamy bacon, mushroom and cheese pie.
He won this year from a pool of 4336 entries.

To cope with the extra demand for the pies, Gold Star Patrick's Pies Bakery Bethlehem has produced an additional 200 bacon and egg pies for the day.
At the Bethlehem store, baker Nan Wang says the team is proud of their effort and to win the award is great reward for their hard work.
