Man injured at Te Puke fire

Te Puke fire fighters found a man with a head injury when they arrived at a house fire in the town on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire stated at about 2.30pm at a property on Dunlop Road.
Fire chief Glenn Williams says the fire was restricted to the home's kitchen and was sparked by a pot left on the stove.

He says the man was standing in the driveway on arrival, but they did not immediately realise he was injured.
"We called an ambulance because the guy had a knock to his head," says Glenn.
"He was a Pacific Islander. He was very hard to understand, I couldn't work out how he got the bang on his head.
"He was going to mow the lawn or was preparing to mow the lawn when the fire started."
The fire only took five minutes for fire fighters to contain.
Glenn says they saw flames flickering away in the ceiling above the kitchen when they first entered.
"When we got there a lot of smoke was coming out."
It will be some time before the occupants of the house can move back in, says Glenn.
"The kitchen is completely gutted, but the rest of the house is smoke damaged.
"The kitchen is going to need to be rebuilt because we've had to take down most of the ceiling."
