Stock killed in truck crash

Five cows are dead and another two injured after a stock truck overturned its crate at Pukehina blocking the road.

Police were called to the crash on rural Old Coach Road, about 300 metres from Ohinepanea Road on the Pukehina Station Road side, about 10.30am.

Senior Constable Bruce Gordon says 58 heifers were being transported from one farm to another down the road when the crash occurred.

The driver was uninjured when the back trailer carrying 35 cattle overturned.

Five of the cattle were killed or had to be put down from injuries following the crash. Another two are injured.

A reporter at the scene says about 20 stock are wandering on the grass verge next to the crash.

Constable Gordon says the road is expected to be closed for up to three hours while a McLeod crane rights the trailer.

Police are still investigating the crash that occurred on a right-hand bend.

The trailer is blocking the entire road.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Too many truck crashes

I like many other people living around this area are getting sick of trucks crashing .... There are not many roads to choose from around here and if a truck is blocking the road it causes huge disruption to many people and businesses. It is very easy to drive a truck and not crash.
