Annie star’s next big role

Singing, dancing and acting are a few of seven-year-old Venice Harris' favourite things.

And that's exactly what she is doing – stepping into her new role in one of the world's most well-known musicals ‘The Sound of Music'.

While the Bethlehem College junior pupil is still performing as the youngest orphan in the rags-to-riches musical ‘Annie' until July 6, she's also been given a part in ‘The Sound of Music' stage production later this year.

'It's been a really, really fun experience,” says Venice, who is excited for her next musical role.

The Sound of Music tells the uplifting true story of a fun-loving governess who changes the life of widowed Captain von Trapp, and his seven children by re-introducing them to music.

Venice auditioned for the part in April and has just been named the youngest of the seven children, Gretel.

'I feel excited. I don't know lots about it, but I've seen the movie quite a few times,” says Venice.

Already warming her vocal chords with her role in Annie, Venice will soon begin rehearsing songs including ‘My Favourite Things', ‘Do-Re-Mi' and the title song The Sound of Music.

Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Ian's production of ‘The Sound of Music' opens at Wellington's St James Theatre on September 12 and in Auckland on October 3 at The Civic theatre. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
