Mount Maunganui-raised Stan Walker is releasing his next single in Maori to celebrate New Zealand Maori Language Week.
The theme for the week, starting next Monday, will be Te Kupa o te Wiki: The Word of the Week.
Stan Walker will be releasing his new single on Monday in Porirua.
Stan has teamed up with Whakatane's Maisey Rika, Tauranga's Ria Hall and Troy Kingi to sing Aotearoa, which will be launched in a live performance in Porirua on Monday.
'I'm fully excited to release this new song 'Aotearoa” in NZ,” Stan Tweeted.
'This song is to celebrate Maori language, Maori culture and New Zealand for this generation, and for this generation to be connected to such a beautiful language.
'Get behind this track and support Maori Language Week.”
The idea for Stan to sing the song came when broadcaster and TV producer Matai Smith saw him sing Crowded House's Don't Dream It's Over in Maori when Stan opened for Beyonce in Auckland last year.
