Under-18 face big test against Auckland

The Bay of Plenty Under-18 team has their biggest test of their season when they travel to Auckland in a top of the table clash on Saturday. Auckland A, which leads the Northern Region competition by a solitary point from the Bay of Plenty representatives, is the cream of Auckland age group talent.

A double hurdle for the Bay team is that they are backing up from a match at Blake Park in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday. However, a four from four win record suggests that that they will give the Auckland side a real contest.
The midweek match-up against Waikato saw Bay of Plenty control the majority of the game. Ahead 19-3 at the break, the local representatives had to absorb some pressure with resulted in a Waikato try, before coming back to run in two further touchdowns to give Bay of Plenty a 31-10 victory.
Nathan Harris grabbed two of the Bay tries, with Rico Flavell and Opotiki players Mike Shaw and James Wilbore also dotting the ball down. Jordan Ngamata-Poi slotted two conversions, with Te Aiha Toma also adding two points.

The Bay Under-16 team travel to Hamilton to take part in the Northern Region playoffs. Their mission is secure fifth place in the regional championship, where they will take on Northland.
