Z service station on 15th Ave was cordoned off for a short time overnight as Tauranga Fire Brigade deal with a fuel spill on the forecourt.

The brigade was called to the petrol station about 9.10pm.

Tauranga Fire Brigade senior station officer Len Sabin says about eight litres of fuel had been spilt.

'We cordoned off the forecourt because we didn't want any hot engines sitting over the fuel vapour.

'Most of the fuel had evaporated when we got there.”

Firefighters hosed the remainder of the fuel down before reopening the forecourt.
