Community farewell Lydia Milbank

The nine-year-old who died after being hit by a motorbike in the Eastern Bay of Plenty will be farewelled today.

A celebration of Lydia Milbank's life will be held at Matata Public School on Pollen Street at 1pm.

Lydia will then be laid to rest at the Hillcrest Lawn Cemetery in Ohope.

The family have asked for no flowers, but donations would be appreciated to the Matata Public School in memory of Lydia.

Lydia died after suffering critical injuries in a crash on State Highway 30, near Lake Rotoma on Sunday.

She was flown to Rotorua Hospital in critical condition but died a short time later.

Officer in charge of the Eastern Bay of Plenty road policing group Sergeant Ray Wylie says the serious crash unit is currently investigating the crash.

'The family wish to express their appreciation to those who stopped and assisted at the crash scene on Sunday.”
