Tributes pour in for Tauranga rider

Family and friends of Tauranga motorcyclist Craig Ritchie will gather today to say their final goodbyes to the fallen rider.

Craig, a member of the Rebels New Zealand Motorcycle Club, was killed in an accident with a truck on State Highway 2, near Gill Lane, on Friday night.

Craig Ritchie will be farewelled by friends and family today.

A service for the 34-year-old father of three girls will be held in Windermere, followed by a burial at Pyes Pa cemetery.

Fellow riders will also take a cruise around town to pay their respects for their comrade.

Since news of Craig's death broke, people have taken to Facebook to pass on their condolences.

'R.I.P. Paradise ride high bro all the way up to heaven's gate. My heart goes out to all your whanau, rest in the heavens above,” reads one post.

'RIP, mu heartfelt thoughts are with you and all your family and friends,” says another.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, which saw the highway closed for a period of time on Friday night.

Western Bay of Plenty highway patrol Sergeant Mike Owen says the Harley Davidson motorcycle, ridden by Craig, was travelling towards Tauranga on SH2 when it collided with a 10-tonne Nissan truck and trailer unit turning right into Gill Lane.

Police investigating the crash are asking for witnesses who either saw the crash or both vehicles prior to the accident, the come forward.
