An iconic holiday park in Tauranga is under new management and about to undergo a major refurbishment.
Silver Birch Holiday Park, on Turret Road, is described as a 'Tauranga icon” by new manager Donna Johnson, who intends to return the park to its former glory.
The Silver Birch Holiday Park is under new management.
'We have closed the camp to refurbish it,” explains Donna. 'Basically we are restoring it back to the kiwiana holiday park that it should be. We're pretty excited about that.
'We took over last Friday so that's what we are doing. We're completely refurbishing it and sticking with that kiwiana theme to bring it back to its former glory.
'Over the last few years it's been let go really, so our aim is to reopen as a family holiday park, because there's very few of them left now in Tauranga.
The refit includes cleaning up the interiors and exteriors as well as the hot pools, in line with the kiwiana camp ground theme.
And according to Donna, who also manages the neighbouring Fountain Court Motel, the Silver Birch is the only one left in Tauranga.
'The nearby Tauranga Tourist Park is operating more as a motorhome park,” says Donna.
'When I worked here 20 years ago it was lovely - a very busy place. It's a prime position here on the harbour and if anyone wants to come down and helps us, they are welcome. Bring a spade.”
