Are you ready to rumble?

A simple coin toss will decide the playing order for three of New Zealand's most well-loved bands when they tour this summer.

The Clash of the Titans sees Dragon, The Exponents and The Feelers sharing the stage for an eight stop tour of the North Island.

The results of the coin flip could be contentious but Exponents frontman Jordan Luck doesn't expect a rumble to break out amongst the three bands.

'There will definitely be some betting about who will win the toss, I can see that happening,” he says breaking off into a husky laugh.

'Sometimes it's great to start, sometimes it's great to finish. I can't see us fighting though.”

After more than 30 years of writing and touring The Exponents have earned the right to be called an iconic Kiwi band.

They've penned a number of classic songs, like ‘Victoria', ‘Erotic' and ‘Why Does Love Do This To Me?' to name a few, which have ingratiated themselves into the national psyche.

Their popularity with Kiwi audiences hasn't gone unnoticed by Jordan either who says it's those moments offstage where it hits him the most.

'You meet people after [the show], they don't know who you are, don't necessarily make a connection to the Exponents but know the songs.

'Then they see you play live and all of a sudden they ‘oh, they do that one, oh and that one, oh flip!' so there's that kid of connection.”

Having said that, Jordan confesses to enjoying playing the odd trick on unsuspecting fans.

'Sometimes when meeting people while out and about I like breaking into ‘Baaa da da bum-bum' and people go, ‘did you write that one?' and I'll go, ‘yeah'.

'Then they cotton onto the fact that I'm not Dave Dobbyn,” he says laughing.

The Exponents have played only three shows this year but have kept busy working on individual projects, plus a documentary about the band to mark their 30th anniversary.

Out of that documentary came ‘Eight Days at Roundhead' released in May, featuring seven previously unrecorded Exponents songs.

They were songs the band had demoed and played live but never laid down on vinyl, he says.

'Within the confines of vinyl, you have 40 minutes to put down what you've got, unless you could afford a double album.

'Some song weren't recorded but on reflection it was unfair to them, just because they weren't necessarily going down well when we played them didn't mean they weren't a good listen.

'Nowadays I suppose we would have just put them straight to YouTube or something.”

The last time he played with The Feelers was when the Jordan Luck Band played support on the Blue Skies Summer Tour in 2009.

But for some of you it may be odd to learn The Exponents and Dragon have never toured together before.

They've certainly shared the stage and appeared on the same bill before, but nothing like the upcoming Titans tour – and Jordan is excited.

'This is a tour I must say! Unlike just a handful of gigs, this is night, after night, after night.

'It may not be like the old-school Exponents six-weeker, but nevertheless this is still going to be a bloody great tour.”

The Clash of the Titans Tour featuring Dragon, The Exponents and The Feelers will play Brewers Field on Tuesday, December 30.

The tour then moves to the Coroglen Tavern for New Year's Eve on Wednesday, December 31.
