UPDATED: SH25 road closure cancelled

UPDATED 5pm: The NZ Transport Agency says it has cancelled its planned road closure of State Highway 25 this coming Thursday.

The road was to be closed to allow for a crane to remove a truck which crashed down a 200m bank at the site last week.

This afternoon the transport agency says its vehicle recovery team has come up with another option to recover the truck that does not require the closure of the state highway.

The agency apologies for any inconvenience it may have caused.

EARLIER:

Motorists are being advised that State Highway 25 between Coromandel town and Te Rerenga will be closed to traffic on Thursday night, from 8pm.

The NZ Transport Agency says the road is being closed to allow for a crane to remove a truck which crashed down a 200m bank at the site last week.

The road will reopen the following day (Friday, January 16) at 6am.

This closure will extend between the Tiki Rd intersection at Coromandel through to the Whangapoua Rd intersection at Te Rerenga, on the eastern side of the peninsula.

Residents will have access to their properties but will not be able to pass the work site, about 2km east of Coromandel town, as the crane needs to span the road to remove the truck.

The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience and understanding during the closure.
