Firefighters are battling a van on fire inside an automotive workshop in Greerton.

Firefighters from Greerton and Tauranga were called to the blaze in Glenlyon Avenue, off Oropi Road about 5.25pm.

Northern Fire Communications shift manager Jaron Phillips says firefighters are currently extinguishing the van after initial reports the workshop was on fire.

'There is a van on fire.

'The building is being used as a workshop, it's 20m by 15m.”
