Family fun at Tye Park

Tye Park in Welcome Bay has been transformed into a musical family fun day for all to enjoy.

Free pony rides, a huge bouncy castle and huge water slide are being accompanied by the musical stylings of musicians, either from here or born and bred here.

Event manager Wiki Parr says they have a good line up of bands here today and we have a good line up of food vendors.

'We also have kids' games here, which are free. There is free food for the children, free sausage sizzles and a hangi going between 3pm and 4pm.”

The day's first act saw an 11-year-old by the name of Dominic who is singing Ave Maria.

'Tickets are $12 for a family pass, $5 for adults or $2 for children and the money will go towards planning another event like this for the community. What better way of doing this,” says Wiki.

'The main goal is to bring the community together because that is what we believe out here in Welcome Bay.”

People are being invited to bring a picnic blanket, lunch and have a good time.

Wiki says for those who don't want to bring a packed lunch, there is plenty of food.

'The hangi will be the best food. There is also Thai food, Simply Delicious, dumplings, a pizza man, candy floss, Belgium Waffles.

'The event is organised by the Welcome Bay Community Centre with the help of Sports Bay of Plenty, Watchman Security and help from the community.”

the event will be going right through to 6pm.
