Reserve grade semifinals set

Defending Reserve Champions R&A Sangha will be joined by Katikati, Cadets and Greerton, in the WBOPCA Reserve Grade semi-finals, after results were posted in the last qualifying round.

The Sangha XI, had to survive a real fight back from the Tauranga Boys' College bowlers, before they kept their unbeaten record intact.

Tauranga Boys were dismissed for 131 with Joe Turner top scoring with 47, with GS Mahal taking four wickets for the defending titleholders.

In spite of a solid knock of 79 from Vikas Tiwari, the game went down to the wire with the Sangha team sneaking home by two wickets. Daniel Elyashiv was in good form with the ball taking four wickets for 18 runs.

Greerton defeated Katikati, to earn the last berth in the title race, with Katikati finishing in second place in spite of the defeat.

Greerton batted first and were bowled out for 211, then removed Katikati for 145 to claim a 66 run victory. The individual highlight of the encounter was a solid 85 by Greerton's Neil Flack.

Cadets wrapped up third place finish in the qualifying rounds when they beat Sikh Sports. Led by a fighting knock of 72 from Amrit Singh, the Sikh XI posted 199 all out.

Cadets stalwart Grant Manners rose to the occasion to blast an unbeaten 106, as his team cruised to a six wicket win.

Mount Maunganui finished their season with a flourish when they posted a big win against Te Puke. A century apiece to Hayden Byrnes and Joel Thomson led the way as the Mount reached 318/8.

The Mount Maunganui bowlers then removed Te Puke for 119 to claim a big win.

On Saturday R&A Sangha, who finished top qualifier, will play Greerton with Katikati and Cadets squaring off in the other semi-final.

B Grade competition leaders Mount Maunganui, were given a big fright by Greerton, before sneaking home to finish as top qualifier in the B Grade title race.

The Mount bowling attack removed Greerton for 131, before a battle of attrition that saw Mount Maunganui get home with just two wickets to spare.

With two byes blighting the last round of the regular season, the only other match played, resulted in Grasshoppers steaming to victory without the loss of a wicket.

Albion posted a very respectable 201/8, before Gary Rudolph and Ray Body blasted their side to a ten wicket win. Rudolph finished with an unbeaten 112, with long time Hoppers team member Body finishing with 65 not out.
