Finals time in Reserve Grade

A quartet of Western Bay of Plenty cricket teams, will be counting down the days until they go into battle, to decide the WBOPCA Reserve and B Grade Championships at Blake Park.

Last weekend the post section contenders squared off in semifinal action. In the Reserve Grade, Greerton and Katikati emerged to battle out the Western Bay silverware, with top qualifier Mount Maunganui and the Sikh XI winning through to meet in the B Grade title decider.

Defending Reserve Grade titleholders R&A Sangha, batted first against Greerton, who had sneaked into the playoffs in the last qualifying round.

The top qualifiers were bowled out for 126, by a determined Greerton bowling attack, with GS Gargan the only Sangha XI batsmen to show any real defiance with 76 runs.

Matt Watt finished his regulation overs with four wickets.

Led by an unbeaten 41 from Ben Lind, Greerton booked their berth in the title fight with a four wicket victory. This was the second time in three weeks, that Greerton had eliminated the Sangha XI from title honours, after beating them in a McNaughton Trophy semifinal.

Katikati Reserves will be chasing their third piece of cricket silverware this season, after winning both the WBOPCA First Round Shield and the McNaughton Trophy, when they square off with the Pemberton Park based side.

Last Saturday they won a low scoring semifinal, defeating Cadets on their way to earning a place in the final.

Katikati batted first and were removed for 185 with Ben Warren top scoring with 72 runs. While Karl Bryant posted a solid 43 for Cadets, they were rolled for 104, with Matt Earl taking vital four wickets.

Reece Olsen did the damage with the ball returning 4/11, as Grasshoppers were bowled for 115.

The Te Puke region Singh XI defeated defending champions Wanderers to reach the final stanza against the Mount.

Wanderers batted first and were bowled out for 102, with Parambir Singh grabbing a five wicket bag, with Amrit Singh also in good touch with the ball taking three wickets.
