Crucial clashes in club rugby

Paroa and Ruatoki go in search of their maiden victory for 2015 in the Eastern Bay of Plenty Premier Rugby competition this weekend in what could be the match of Round Three.

After two weeks of competition the two sides sit bottom of the table, behind leaders Te Toko and Opotiki, both scoring little more than 30 points and conceding in excess of 60 in total for both matches.

Paroa are shifting their focus back to the local round, while Ruatoki are looking to be competitive against a premier side.

Paroa coach George Harawira says the side are still looking at the Bayfair BayWide round, to start on May 2, however they need to get back up in the local round first.

'We need to turn things around on the scoreboard and that starts with an honest training, which we have had.”

Ruatoki coach Maaki Pouwhare knows the side opponents will be a tough task, but is willing his side to rise to the challenge.

'Paroa are going to play in the Bayfair BayWide Premier Comp next round, so it would be good for us to be competitive”.

Other matches see Opotiki host Te Teko at Princess Street Reserve and Poroporo at home to Whakatane Marist.

The Central Bay of Plenty competition sees the first Division One clash between Ngongotaha and Kahukura in the third match of the season at the Ngongotaha Domain.

Kahukura coach Ron Preston says now that the side has got the two toughest games out of the way they can concentrate on teams of similar calibre.

'Everyone is enthusiastic about the match up and they are all looking forward to it”.

Ngongotaha coach Dennis Beckett was unavailable for comment, and while they have had loses to Waikite and Rotoiti in the past two weeks, Ngongotaha will be looking forward to the opportunity for an evenly matched contest.

Other Round Three clashes see Waikite and Whakarewarewa clash, and Rotoiti hosting Marist St Michael's.
