Te Puke seeks winning formula

It's looking like who can keep up with Tauranga Sports in this year's club rugby competition, but back in the pack are two sides searching for redemption.

Round Four of the Western Bay of Plenty premier rugby competition gets underway after breaking for Easter with teams keen to log as many wins as possible heading into the Baywide competition starting May 2.

None more so than Greerton Marist and Te Puke Sports, the latter yet to register a win this season.

Te Puke, along with Rangataua, sit bottom of the table while Greerton is in third having registered two wins.

Greerton Marist coach Kevin Lee says the side is looking forward to competing against Te Puke in what is another pre-season game/step towards the Baywide round.

'Te Puke has been one of the benchmark clubs in recent years so it will be interesting to see how we measure up against them at this stage in both teams preparation.”

Te Puke coach Craig Jeffries concedes it has been a rough start to the season.

During the break the side has gone right back to the basics, and are working hard to break this trend, something he hope spays off.

'Greerton are going to be a difficult team and we have to get our game going smartly in order to start getting better results.

'We have had Pirates legend and current Turbo's assistant coach Jeremy Cotter running his astute eye over video to help turn our season around so we are hoping for a better showing in the coming weeks”.

Across town Tauranga Sports host Rangataua and Te Puna host reigning champions Mount Maunganui.

Tauranga remain top of the table with a perfect record having accounted for Te Puke, Greerton and Mount Maunganui in the opening three rounds.
